Layne, Sharon and family,
We have been praying for you since we heard of your illness. As you are trusting God for His will in all decisions and situations, we pray He will give you the peace needed at all times. Surely His grace is sufficient, but difficult situations sometimes make for difficult decisons that make us lean harder on the Lord.
Sharon’s uncle (Knights’) in Lexington, SC are members of Philip’s church, so he is aware of your illness and prays for you also. I also called one of Sharon’s roommates from years ago at Bob Jones, Diane Harrell (do not remember her married name) in Chester, VA. for her church to pray for family. God is good, He is in control, He will do all things to bring honor to Him in this time. Stay encouraged. Sharon, Kennedy misses seeing you.

Dear Daniel family,
We’re praying for your family and know that God will give you the grace needed to make it through this tough time. Your family has has been a wonderful testimony and a shining example to Christian families everywhere. Keep up the fight (we’ll keep praying) that the doctors one day will tell Layne that he is cancer free (with God all things are possible).

Layne, Sharon, and family,
You do not know who I am, but I saw your website on a note someone had sent to Tim and Lydia Campbell. It jumped out at me, b/c they mentioned about your brain tumor. My first husband had the same type of brain tumor. As I look back, I am amazed at the grace God gave to our family. I can’t even explain the peace that I felt as we went through that trial. I will be praying for you. Even though I don’t know you, I feel a connection because I feel the pain, because of having been where you are. The best advice I can give is just to take one day at a time, and sometimes one hour or minute at a time, and or course, STAY in your Bible! It sounds like you have a sweet testimony. I am sure you are a blessing to many. I would love to correspond with Sharon if you are interested!
You will be in our thoughts and prayers!

Praying for you every day. Sorry to hear of all the difficulties! My heart aches for you! We love you and pray God’s healing will come! Camp is in its 2nd week. Seem to have a good summer staff. My kids are all working so it’s a little quiet around home.
love you,

We are keeping Layne and the family in our prayers. We know that God is the great physician. Jesus said he would never leave us or forsake us. Trininty Baptist is keeping you and your family in our prayers also. You are such a blessing to our family. If there is anything we can do don’t ever hesitate to call us day or night.

Hello Daniel Family!
You have been on our mind and in our prayers, but especially during the last week for some reason. Gary mentioned at dinner a couple of days ago that he had Layne on his mind all day. Ironically, I had been thinking of you, Sharon, and Krista all day. (Jason, do not feel left out . . . it was a “girl” thing!) We figured God was definitely sending us a message to do some EXTRA praying.
Your faith and courage inspire us. We love and appreciate you more than you know. We really miss seeing you at school, Sharon. Our prayer is for God’s divine miracle of healing. We also pray for peace and strength for the entire family. ANY time you need a place for Krista and/or Jason, give us a call. If they can stand our organized “chaos,” we would LOVE to have them.
May God bless and bless and bless and bless your family,
Kathy Hayes and the entire Hayes family

Layne, Sharon, and family:
Through a course of events (a.k.a. God’s providence) Layne’s name came to my remembrance from BJU days. After doing a search, the first on the results list was your site at wordpress.com. I have not yet had time to read through all the entries but have the general idea of the trial you folks are facing. Thank you for your demonstration of faithfulness to God in the midst of your trial. We will be praying for God to continue to uphold you by His grace and that He will provide for your physical needs. Though it may seem simpleton, as we face trials (great or small) our greatest challenge is to live to demonstrate God as great and God as good. Though I know it is true (on one hand), yet (on the other) my flesh will ask “why?” as I, or others like yourself face trials. When I ask “why?” I return to the theme of 2 Cor 4 and really of the entirety of scripture; that being that God is glorifying Himself. When we face trials our response needs to reflect His greatness and His goodness by glorifying Him. Praise God for His grace to glorify Him. How I would value the opportunity to visit with you and your family. I pray that God will give us that opportunity.

I am saddened, but pray that the extra measure of grae that God promises during these times is made vey real to you. Please know I love you and will be specifically praying for day by day strength, peace, and assurance that only God can give for YOU.
Love, Sue

Dear Bro. Layne, Sister Sharon, Jason, & Krista,
I just wanted to send you a letter to let you all know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers since I first heard of Bro. Layne’s condition. I continually pray that the Lord will have His will and His way in this situation. I also work with several wonderful Christian ladies, which I have also asked them to lift you all up in their prayers and to add you to their prayer lists at their churches. I cannot begin to imagine all the pain and agony you all have had to go through since Bro. Layne’s diagnosis with cancer; however, I admire you for how well you have been able to put your faith and trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that I am unable to put myself in your shoes and feel your pain; however, with all that our family has gone through over the past few years, I can honestly say that I know the Lord has a reason for each and everything that we go through in life. And each time that I have had to go through a difficult situation in my life or I have a hard time understanding why God allows me to go through certain situations, He always seems to carry me back to Jeremiah 29:11, which states, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Although we may not understand all the things that we have to go through, and we often may wonder why God would allow His children to suffer here on earth, the best thing we can do is look to Jesus and trust in His Word. For He tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Bro. Layne & Sister Sharon, I also wanted to let you know that I appreciate both of you for helping to build the firm foundation for my Christian faith & always know that all of your work was not done in vain. I am sure that so many others would agree with me, so please know that your impact on my life and others is greatly appreciated and I can assure you that the Lord will surely reward you in heaven. In closing, just know that I love you and you are continually in my thoughts and prayers. May God continue to strengthen, bless, and comfort you!
Much Love Under His Wings,
Tarece Brock

Dear Sharon,
I am glad to see that you have a computer again. I have wanted to share these thoughts with you, but I didn’t want to intrude on your precious time at home by calling. Danny, Benjamin, Seth, & I have been keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers, as has our church. I know there are so many in your church and families taking care of you, but if there is anything at all I can do, please let me know. We are so close by, and I will be glad to run errands for you or help in any way at all! I’m just a phone call away.
I do not know what it is like to walk the path you are walking, but as you know, I have experienced God’s grace first-hand, and it will definetly sustain you in the storm. I am so thankful that both of you have such tremendous faith and that you are instilling God’s principles and blessings in your precious children. God is using your family in ways you will never know on this earth!! Isn’t it amazing how He blesses and strengthens even in our very darkest hours?
Continue to “hold fast” knowing that there are countless people lifting you all in prayers daily to our Heavenly Father.
Love,
Wendy Taylor

Dear Layne, Sharon, Jason and Krista,
I just wanted to tell you that you are often in my prayers–both night and day– and I ask God to give you strength and encouragement as onlly He can do. Even though we go through these trying times, no one can know how it really is until it happens to them. I know about you through the Paul Hawkins family. They are a precious couple. and have prayed for me many times since I have known them. May God give you everlasting comfort during thesse trying times –hours and days– and know that I will uphold you to His throne. May His love prove even closer than ever before.
With loving concern and prayer, Vista Howlett

Sharon,
Your blog today of “Certain Victory” is very precious and a certain testimony of your secure relationship with the Lord and Layne. Thank you for sharing during your walk through the bottom of the valley. The words speak of life and love particularly as they are focused in our loving Heavenly Father.

It must be very difficult for you at this time, yet you continue to glorify God no matter what. What an incredible testimony you are to fellow believers and an unsaved world! Jason and Krista amaze me every day–they seem to exude a peace that I know can only come from God. Thank you for staying strong in your faith. I love to read Anne Bradstreet’s “As Weary Pilgrim,” which concludes with these words: “Oh how I long to be at rest/ And soar on high among the blest./ This body shall in silence sleep/ Mine eyes no more shall ever weep/ No fainting fits shall me assaile/ Nor grinding paines my body fraile/ With cares and fears ne’r cumbred be/ Nor losses know, nor sorrowes see/ What tho my flesh shall there consume/ It is the bed Christ did perfume/ And when a few yeares shall be gone/ This mortall shall be cloth’d upon/ A Corrupt Carcasse downe it lyes/ A glorious body it shall rise/ In weaknes and dishonour sowne/ In power ’tis rais’d by Christ alone/ Then soule and body shall unite/ And of their maker have the sight/ Such lasting joyes shall there behold/ As eare ne’r heard nor tongue e’er told/ Lord make me ready for that day/ Then Come deare bridgrome Comme away.”

We just wanted you to know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers since Layne’s sickness began. What grace God gives us as Christians when we are going through the rough times in our lives. You have both been an encouragement to us through your writings on your family website. May you continue to find strength in Him in the days ahead.

Dear Sharon,
I and our church have been praying for you through this long battle. I wish I would have had access to the web site sooner so that I could have kept up with the updates. What a tremendous testimony you and your children are of the grace of God. We wanted to go to the funeral but couldn’t because of previous obligations. Mom and Dad said it was tremendous!!
Know that we are praying for you and if there is anything we can do or anything you need, please let us know. Praise the Lord that He is touched with the feelings of our infirmities!! He knows exactly what we are going through and knows how to see us through!! May the Lord continue to give you grace and strenght daily as you continue on for Him!
In Christ,

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation (afflictions), that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. II Cor 1
You have an active, current ministry as you find others who are struggling to share in that comfort God is giving you. Notice the Word says you have the ability to comfort those in a multitude of problems (“any”) even though your grief and affliction is specific. Watch as God gives you those opportunities.
Still praying for y’all!

On the way back from the Zoo, I asked Joyce Attoe if she had called you for your birthday. She said she emailed you. I realize this isn’t an easy day, but wanted you to know a number are praying for you. Happy Birthday is not appropriate, but Grace Birthday is what we hope you had.
